South Yorkshire Supertram - Depot
Balfour Beatty designed and constructed the South Yorkshire Supertram depot located on a 2.6 hectare site. The depot consists of a workshop building, 24 sidings stabling, a turning loop, engineers siding, wheel lathe, sanding equipment and automatic washing machine as well as a number of small tools and mechanical handling equipment.
Trams can access or egress by either the west or east gates. Road access is from Woodburn Road at the east end where there is also a turning loop and an engineers siding. Operation and maintenance personnel can use the Nunnery crew change tram stop on the main line, adjacent to the south west corner of the main workshop building.
Provision has been made for a future paint or body shop to be located over the siding in the north east corner, adjacent to British Rail.
Lighting is by way of high mast illumination at the west and east ends and standard street lighting columns and heads along the stabling sidings. The sides of the main building also support a number of lighting heads.
Security is controlled by means of CCTV, fence guard wires and a gate micro-wave system with all personnel being issued with activation passes.
