Cleveleys Coast Protection Phases 2 & 3

The £19 million scheme comprises the construction of 1.1km of new coastal defences which included the import and placement of 10,000 tonnes of armourstone and 150,000 tonnes of fill material.

1,000 tonnes of sheet piles have been driven, stretching for some 1.1km and the scheme included the manufacture and placement of 600 interlocking precast concrete revetment units, each weighing 16 tonnes.  The rock armour used on the scheme ranged between 0.25 and 7.6 tonnes and was used to create rock groynes as additional protection in front of the new revetment units. A number of existing timber groynes in disrepair were also improved.

Finally, 15,000 square metres of paving were placed as part of the promenade upgrade works.  The 108 week construction period commenced in November 2005, after a 10 month ECI period to finalise design and develop a target cost for the works.
