Kilmainham Site Development
Balfour Beatty Ireland (BBI) were awarded this basement excavation contract for the excavation of over 100,000 cm of boulder clay to form the basement for a new Residential and Commercial development in Kilmainham. The works included design and construction of all temporary supports works. Both contiguous piling and kingpost solutions were used to support an existing ESB sub station, houses and matured trees around the perimeter of the site.
Part of the Works included the demolition of a boundary wall between the Works and the existing Dublin/Cork main railway line. The wall, situated some 4-5m above the existing track was demolished at night under Irish Rail supervision and to their satisfaction. During construction, the Clients decision to construct an additional semi basement was taken on board by BBI. Whilst altering the already installed temporary works BBI were able to adapt the temporary works to incorporate the new works at minimal extra costs to the Client.
The contract was completed ahead of programme and to the satisfaction of the Client.
