North Manchester Business Park

The Central Park Entrance Gateway Project is the first element of a substantial regeneration project in Moston (North East Manchester). It ultimately provides the infrastructure required to enable the development of approximately 200 hectares of brown field land into high quality business and light industrial use.

The project includes the design and construction of structural and highway works for the new Gateway Road into the park and the provision of structures for the extension of the Metrolink tram and a subsequent multi-modal transport interchange.

Metrolink Bridge

Another key element of the project was the provision of a station on the proposed Manchester Metrolink Stage 3 line between Manchester City Centre and Oldham. The station is elevated above the Gateway Road on a two span high quality structure. The structure has a number of key architectural and technical features. Theses include the integral design of the concrete deck into the support structure. This was a design development from the exhibited scheme, which substantially reduces the whole life cost and maintenance liability of the structure.

Heavy Rail Bridge

This structure carries the new Gateway Road under an existing Heavy Rail line. The structure was constructed to the south of the railway and jacked underneath the live tracks using an innovative and patented system devised and implemented by our joint venture partner Bilfinger Berger AG.

Metrolink Station Canopy

The most architecturally significant feature of the project is the Canopy which shelters the Metrolink station beneath. This landmark structure serves as the centrepiece for the whole of the business park development. The 58m high cable stayed mast provides a landmark, which continues the architectural theme (beginning with the City of Manchester Stadium) in the area. The canopy is clad in prepatinated copper, giving a strong visual reference to the industrial and commercial heritage of the area.
