Communications
We employ a variety of methods to communicate key business goals and issues to employees.
Frequent road shows are held across the country to allow senior managers to communicate to employees, and these sessions encourage two-way communication through structured question sessions. We use a number of other vehicles to communicate with our employees, particularly the Cascade Briefing system, which encourages upward communication. Regular Employee Satisfaction surveys take place, through which employees are able to give views to the Company on a variety of topics, and highlight any areas of concern.
The Company recognises the BBCEL staff association for staff employees and UCATT, T & GWU and GMB for hourly paid employees. Consultative meetings are held in each part of the business involving union representatives.
Newsletters and various in house publications ensure that employees are informed about business developments across Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering. IntraCEL, our company intranet, gives employees access to the latest news and information on Company procedures and standards.
Communication is, however, a two way process, with the aid of our employee satisfaction survey, our communication methods and channels are analysed, refocused and retested, using the valuable feedback which our staff provide.
We encourage our staff to communicate with us; listening is an ongoing process.
