Top marks for Balvac team

Balvac's Derby inner ring road team received excellent scores in a CCS audit. This showed its industry-leading approach to 8 key areas from the code of practice: • Considerate • Environment • Cleanliness • Good neighbour • Respectful • Safe • Responsible • Accountable.

The scheme auditor gave the team 39.5 out of 40, saying: "The high standards already achieved by the site management team, in partnership, are continuing, and I congratulate all concerned".

Silver Award for community involvement

BBCEL's A92 Montrose bridge replacement scheme for Angus Council won the CCS silver award, specifically for: • Keeping the local community informed • Minimising the effect on the public • Involvement with local people, including our safety advisers visiting schools • Sponsoring local events

This was the first North of Scotland Region project in the scheme. The award recognised "huge effort to involve the team in local issues and communicate effectively with local people and organisations".

The delighted client said: "The project team were proactive in minimising social and environmental disruption".

This project was shortlisted for three categories in the high-prestige British Construction Industry Awards, and for the much-celebrated Prime Minister's better public project building award.

Birse project scores top marks

Birse Civils' A58 Blackbrook diversion project scored an outstanding 40/40 in a site audit.

The auditor enthused:

"In eight years and 1,500 site visits as a CCS monitor, this is by far the best highways project I have ever seen. The degree of cooperation between Birse and its client, St Helens Council, is most impressive, and this contract is an example of what can be done to exceed even the high standards of the CCS when both parties are determined to demonstrate best practice in every way".
