How we work
Worktop waste and old rubble reduce air miles
Built on land reclaimed from the sea, the extension to the Shetlands' Sumburgh Airport needed large amounts of fill. Some came from a company which manufactures granite worktops. Blocks which were unsuitable for their needs were used as fill. In addition, we re-used all the rubble dumped when the original airport was built.
The project used sustainable means in construction. What's more, the new longer runways enable better service using fewer and larger aircraft, thus saving air miles.Related
