How we work
Reptile & Amphibian Workshop
A number of designated environmentally sensitive sites are located within and around the A3 Project, encompassing a rich mosaic of heathland, grassland, woodland and wetland habitat. Providing ideal conditions for a wide range of sensitive and endangered species to live and breed.
Ecological surveys, mitigation, trapping and relocation of a number of reptiles and amphibians have been carried out across the A3 Project, both prior to clearance works and during the construction phase. However they are still occasionally encountered within work areas.
It was identified that the workforce should receive additional training relating to these animals, which are often difficult to see. So on 5th October 2010, two workshops were held in conjunction with Surrey Amphibian and Reptile Group (SARG), a non-profit-making wildlife conservation organisation, who focus on the care and preservation of wild native reptiles and amphibians.
The aim of the workshop was to raise awareness among site staff of the importance of protecting some of the more reclusive UK fauna, involving a presentation by Danial Winchester from SARG, and an introduction to the construction team of the various reptiles and amphibians that live in the UK.
