Safe working embedded in site culture

Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering's Southern Region delivered a major part of its M4 Framework Agreement with the Highways Agency. We completed phase 5 of the £9.3m project two weeks ahead of schedule. This included installing a network management information system over 12km of M4 between junctions 8/9 and junction 10.

The extreme hazards of working on one of Britain's busiest motorways meant much of the work was done at night. This was necessary to safeguard both the workforce and the travelling public.

The works were excellently done, said Highways Agency, with "Environmentally sensitive areas treated with great care and finished work to a high standard. Anyone visiting this project would notice that safe working is embedded in the site culture".
