Complex and varied contract awarded in the Scottish Borders to

13 June 2006

Scottish Borders Council has awarded Raynesway a lump sum fixed price contract for road infrastructure improvements around the location of the new Asda store development in Galashiels.

The project consists of 650m of single lane carriageway, two roundabouts, a 125 space long stay car park, access roads and parking for the refurbished health centre, together with the demolition of an 80m long road bridge and smaller footbridge. The road works also include drainage, street lighting, traffic signals and hard/soft landscaping.

Further challenges include the need for extensive sheet piled temporary works with soil anchors to enable the rail bridge construction. Service diversions for all major utilities are also required and are critical to the contract programme.
