Roundabout Improvement Works

13 February 2009

RoundaboutHolystone Roundabout is located in North Tyneside at the A19/ A191 junction and is close to the headquarters of client North Tyneside Council. It is hoped that the scheme will improve road safety and ease traffic congestion. It will involve a mixture of day and night shift work, at a location subject to heavy traffic flow at peak times.

Specifically the works will involve widening of the carriageway to create a third lane, the installation of traffic signals, the construction of a new footway on the inside of the roundabout along with all associated temporary traffic and pedestrian management. Associated footpaths will remain open throughout the works, minimising disruption to local residents, maintaining a key pedestrian route to Holystone Primary School.

Seaton Burn Roundabout is located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, connecting the A1, A19 and A1068 roads. It is hoped that the improvements will lead to increased road safety at a location also subject to heavy traffic flow. The works, to be completed for the Highways Agency will be carried out at night and include the installation of new traffic signals on the A1, A19 and A1068 approaches to the roundabout, together with carriageway widening on the A1 approach. Re-surfacing and anti-skid works will be completed on the circulatory carriageway and approach arms, together with revised road markings and improved signage.
