Raynesway Construction wins Substation Rebuild
23 February 2009
Following the successful completion in 2008 of the Calton Road substation in Edinburgh, Scottish Power has awarded
Raynesway Construction a further substation contract.
The particular challenge on this site is access as the site is bounded on all sides by residential properties through which we have to gain access. Currently an existing substation occupies the site, which was completely flooded some years ago and as a result, Scottish Power had to install temporary transformers in an adjacent car park to maintain the power supply to this part of Edinburgh.
Our work scope is to demolish part of the existing substation and construct new foundations and concrete walls to enable new transformers to be placed. The remainder of the existing substation will then be demolished and a new switchgear building will be constructed in the same area, completion of which will allow the adjacent temporary arrangement to be removed. Throughout the
construction period the substation will continue to be operational.
