Infinity Bridge Opening

infinity bridge openingThe construction of the iconic Infinity Bridge is now complete with the bridge being officially opened to the public. A spectacular sound and light show took place involving a firework display, marking the official opening of the bridge.

Infinity Bridge is a dramatic addition to the areas skyline, spanning the River Tees and linking Tees Valley Regeneration's flagship North Shore development to the thriving area of Thornaby.

Crowds from across the Tees Valley and the wider north gathered to witness the stunning bridge in all of its glory for the first time. Large screens were provided to ensure everyone had the best possible view.

Constructing Excellence Awards
Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering's, Northern Region has been awarded the Project of the Year Award for the completion of Infinity Bridge, at the fifth annual Constructing Excellence North East Awards.

Balfour Beatty was one of 12 winners in the 11 categories celebrating excellence and the achievements of organisations across the North East's built environment. The Infinity Bridge contract will now represent the North East in the national finals.

The project involved the construction of a two span steel arch footbridge across the River Tees. The project was delivered both to programme and budget.

The award criteria applied to all projects included level of technical achievement, innovation and application of best practise, whilst delivering the project both on time and to budget, taking into account team working throughout the supply chain.
